“You don’t have a job!”

December 19th, 2009

This goes hand in hand with how I think about the internet in general. Just because you have the anonymity of the ‘net at your disposal doesn’t automatically mean that you can be a jackass on the internet and continually get away with it. It also applies to people who are spoiled brats. Just because you have your way all the time with your parents and other family doesn’t mean that people who are in your guild or whatever are available at your beck and call.

One of the things I dislike more than anything are hypocrites. Then there are the hypocrites who pull double standards. That’s where I draw the line. Yesterday, my guild leader logged in later than usual and then wanted us to go with him to the new IceCrown 5-man dungeons. We apologized and said that we had already run them since we did not know where he was or what he was doing since he’s normally online at all hours of the day (no exaggeration). We waited for him for a long time… til about 3pm server. It’s not like we can sit online all day and wait for him, right? Last time I checked, our schedules didn’t revolve around him. We wanted to get it done and out of the way. He moped and pouted at us then said “fine I’ll just log and wait for everyone else.”

Today, we waited for him. Just because that was the first time we’ve ever went ahead without him. I didn’t realize we were his very own tank and healer slaves. I think I pay $15/month to do as I please, right? He doesn’t pay for it. Anyways, we waited until about 5pm when I had to go wrap last minute gifts, exercise, shower and eat dinner… which only took about 1.5 hours. We come back and he’s in the dungeons already without us. Hmm. Do I smell revenge for yesterday? Talk about mature. So I whisper him and thought that I’m going to keep this issue between us because I didn’t appreciate him moping and pouting yesterday and making it feel like we did a bad thing. His reasoning was that he had a bad day at work yesterday and that just made things worse. Oooh poor baby. I told him that we ALL have bad days at work… so? And then he retorted with “You don’t have a job!”

Just because I live in a state that has (or at least used to) one of the HIGHEST unemployment rate in the country doesn’t mean that I didn’t try. I have had jobs but the last one really tried my patience on humility. Sorry, but if the boss is being a racist jackass, I think that’s when it’s time to quit. Anyways, so this guy has a job… a part-time job at GameStop… where he barely works. I mean maybe what, 10 hours a week? Sometimes 0 hours because apparently they’ve “over-hired” at his location (is his reasoning). And he can call me out on not having a job? Wow. I don’t think somebody who makes enough money to probably buy one video game can call me out on not having a job, thank you very much.

I’ve probably worked more than most people our age (he’s only a year younger than me)! I’ve worked since I was 9 years old… and not just a couple hours here and there and OH! here’s your allowance –type of jobs. I’m talking about busgirl at several restaurants (illegally mind you, but I was getting paid through my mom and under the table), and then my parent’s store where I was clocking almost 60 hours a WEEK sometimes! 6 days a week… after school til close, and then pretty much full days on Saturdays. It was always school, work, sleep for me. I’ve had to work for a very long time, so not holding a job for a mere 2.5 years doesn’t mean jack shit to me. I’ve still worked more than he probably could even fathom!

Oh yeah, he also kept pressuring us to give him our account info. HAHA, right whatever! Just because your real life friends share their accounts with you doesn’t mean that we’ll suddenly do it. That’s just a bit too much to ask for. We’ve been with this guild since October… but that doesn’t entitle them to know our account information. The real life friends in this guild made up about 60% of the guild roster, so you can see how any arguments against him goes.

Just because I don’t have a job now doesn’t mean I don’t do anything either. I maintain a house by making sure our bills/utilities are paid every month, checkbook is balanced and credit card under our budget, dinner is made/prepped, dishes are cleaned, laundry washed, floor swept/vacuumed and dusting every place I can possibly reach, including the walls. That’s not work? It sure feels like work to me. But I guess to some who don’t maintain a house wouldn’t feel that way. They just have mommy or daddy do it for them, eh? :P

What gets me is today we log in and the Guild Message of the Day is “Be nice and considerate to your fellow guildies!” I’m more than sure that it was somehow directed at us… but I don’t think he got his own memo. I think stating something like goes BOTH ways, not just for everyone to be nice and considerate to him. Why must the internet and MMO’s in general be filled with such amazingly retarded and selfish idiots? It’ll always boggle my mind.

Ah, what a lovely parting/Christmas gift from people who I thought were friends. I guess you can always tell when somebody becomes desperate when they pull out ALL of their guns and start flinging mud at you (aka irrelevant insults).

Oh yeah, on a side note… if a guildie is trying to quit smoking, don’t say anything to them. If it’s like the guy in this guild, he’s more irritable and jumps to wrongful conclusions than a girl with PMS! Wow, just… wow. Then he goes running to the guild leader like some child and tells on me when he totally took what I said in a sarcastic manner as some personal blow towards him. He claimed that I called him a loot whore when neither of those words came out! I just said that a pug I was with had shaman loot drop and there wasn’t any to claim it so it was disenchanted! Where did calling him a loot whore originate from that totally beats me!!!

  1. Shiranai says:

This is the lowest blow I’ve ever seen from a guild leader. Most d-bags at least keep their insults game related. His remark was insulting and had no place in the discussion we were trying to have with him.

I have been very patient with this guild. I put up with the stupid PvP over PvE mindset (go play DoAC or WAR already). I put up with the revolving alt BS in raids. I put up with the complete lack of commitment at attempting hard modes (even though I was promised this is something we’d be pursuing when I joined). I put up the lack of interest in aggressively pushing Icecrown.

What I do not put up with low blow personal attacks like this from anyone, and especially not from someone who BARELY works part time.

What I also do not put up with is that he told us, “If I do something wrong, call me out on it,” but then getting insulted when you actually go and do what he said.
